Sony Xperia XZ Review: Good, Not So Great!

Sony Xperia XZ Review:- Sony has been in a pinch for the last two years and failed to make great sales for the its last few flagship phones. So this time they came up with the Sony Xperia X series line up at  MWC 2016, to make a strong come back in the smartphone market.

Still it seems Sony has not totally given up on the Z series, as they brought the new flagship Sony Xperia XZ, by mixing the name. Though this phone has already launched in other countries, but in India it was announced in September with a hefty price tag of  Rs 51,990(762 $).

They have been aggressively promoting Sony Xperia XZ in India, as India is becoming a great market for smartphones. The most interesting and highlighting feature of this phone is its design, 23 MP camera and a very powerful chip-set Snapdragon 820.

I was at the launch event which Sony held to promote the smartphone and I was lucky to be given a chance to review the unit. So I am writing down my review on this device.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: 

BUILD AND DESIGN

Well like always Sony again went with rectangular box body, though as usual but doesn't look bad on this one. Every part is perfectly in sync, ticking all the right boxes at the right places. The rear body is made of metal along with comfy round poly-carbonate frame at the sides.

The Sony Xperia has omni balance body dimension of 146 x 72 mm x 8.1 mm. The dimension is perfectly perfect for giving us comfy hold. The edges between the frame and adjacent surface prevents finger slipping.

As I mentioned before, the back panel is metal made with special material that Sony calls it 'Alkaledo' The front side features  a 5.2 inch 2.5 D display and the 13 MP front camera. The right side of the phone has power button which is embedded with fingerprint sensor and just below the power button is volume rocker keys and the dedicated camera button.

The Left side of the sony xperia XZ features the hybrid nano sim slot, while at the top front the 3.5 mm headphone is located. The USB Type C slot is present at the bottom portion of the phone.

The Phone is also IP certified Dust and Water Resistant.

So overall I think there has been a lot of changes, especially in the raw material used. Also with each release they are improving themselves to be better in design quality and the Sony Xperia XZ is the result of such great effort.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: 

DISPLAY 

The Sony Xperia XZ features a 5.2 Inch IPS Full HD(1080 x 1920) display with 424 Ppi density. The Display has 2.5 D glass and is protected with Gorilla Glass 4.

Though the display is not Quad HD, but still it looks gorgeous  since the display's hardware and software is powered by Bravia Engine. I was totally impressed with display, as everything that I played with on this device had great colors and sharpness.The images looked vibrant and the text appeared punchy all the time.

I find the viewing angles and sunlight view far better then most of the 1080 p displays. The display also has the Sony's traditional features like 'X-Reality' and 'Triluminous'.  

Sony Xperia XZ Review: 

Performance

Despite being a phone that has one of the fastest processor Snapdragon 820 chipset, I founded little bit laggy and over heating over time. When I was playing Asphalt 8, at first the game was playing with no issues but after playing for sometime I felt little bit heat down the fingers. Otherwise is no issue with the performance while playing games. I also checked more graphics intensive games like nova 3, Brother in arms and modern combat, all these games were running fantastically with no issues.

But for some reason it was laggy when I used chrome browser and was switching between the apps. I found this odd, because the same powerful processor is also backed by 3 GB of DDr4  Ram. This much Ram should be more than enough to easily perform the multitasking.

 My own experience says that the issue might be because of  the new Sony's UI. Later updates might fix this and should fix it as nobody would want a buggy phone after spending 762 $.

Now taking about other features, the Sony Xperia XZ comes with 32/64 GB variant but storage can be expanded up to 256 GB via micro SD card. 

The fingerprint scanner embedded into power button is fast and unlocks the phone quickly, but be careful to touch the button softly otherwise you will lock the phone instead of unlocking.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: 

CAMERA PIXELS

Sony has always been good in camera sector, especially their camera software and camera add on features. The Sony Xperia XZ is no exception to that. The camera setup is quite similar to Xperia X but has gone some decent changes under the hood.

This time and probably for the first time Sony has used a 5 axis Stabilization mechanism. The phone also has super fast laser auto-focus and a dedicated color system for color calculation.

The 23 MP camera along with Sony's Exmor RS sensor, lens aperture f/2.0 and LED flash makes a great combination to take some great pictures with Sony Xperia XZ . The quality and the colors matches to the real one.

There is not much of difference in camera's UI compared to the previous Z series phones. But that is not such bad thing, as I always thought the UI is pretty cool with the add on features. The UI has some interesting shooting modes like AR mode, Time lapse Mode, 4k Video mode and light mode etc, which makes shooting experience great and fun too.

Photography in both day and night conditions were great. The pictures that were taken at night had nice color, less noise and good sharpness.

If I have to say, I would say that the camera performance of Sony Xperia XZ might be at the same level as that  of Samsung Galaxy S7 or LG G5.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: 

MEDIOCRE BATTERY LIFE

The Sony Xperia XZ encases a 2,900 mAH non removable battery, which might not be a huge capacity now a days but still is an average performer.

When I was playing modern combat for 15 minutes 10% of the battery vanished, So if my calculations are correct then the battery should be able to handle 5 to 6 hours of game-play.  If you are playing a locally stored video,then the battery will last around 15 to 16 hours, but if you are streaming using wifi or 4G internet then in an hour you will see up to  11% drop in battery.

Also my usage is little bit higher as I often stream music videos and latest game-plays and found myself with no battery at the end of the day, so its an average battery life. Well if you want more battery at the end you can always go for ultra battery saving mode which will restrict almost all the features accept functions like dialer, music player and camera, so if you are travelling great distances that is the best choice you have to last the battery for two days at-least.

Sony Xperia XZ Review: 

VERDICT

If you ask me whether to buy this phone are not? Well, in my honest opinion I think if you want phone with great performance and feature then I think there are many other better options available in the market at the same or less price. But if you are looking specifically for a Sony flagship phone then I will definitely recommend you Sony. As possibly this one is the best phone by Sony so far.

Google Pixel Vs LG G5 Vs Sony Xperia XZ: Battle Of The Flagship Phones

At the starting of this month the tech giant Google announced the Google Pixel smartphone by killing its previous sub-brand Nexus. Currently Google has create chance of the taking some share of the market left open by the Recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7.  But stand in its way are the two most tough rivals LG (with G5) and SONY (with Xperia XZ). These three phones have currently the top specs and will be competing for a better sales in the market.

LG G5 the modular phone and Sony Xperia XZ are early 2016 influencers and its completely justifiable to compete these two phones with Google pixel Smartphone as they have mostly the same niche as pixel.

Display:- Google Pixel and Sony Xperia XZ have Full HD(1080 X 1920) display, while LG G5 sports Quad HD(1440 x 2560 ) display. So without a doubt LG G5 will have better Ppi density compared to these two phones. The more the Ppi densities are the more clearer the displays are.

Camera:-  Here its quite hard to explain which one would be better, as more pixels doesn't mean more better pictures. But considering the on paper details Sony Xperia XZ has more pixels then these two phones.

Processor:- Both Sony Xperia XZ and LG G5 have Snapdragon 820 processor. Whereas Google pixel features a slightly better snapdragon 821 Quad corecore processor. All these phones have snappy performance.

RAM:- Google Pixel and LG G5 have 4 GB Ram, whereas Sony Xperia XZcomes with 3 GB Ram. There has to be some dynamic difference in performance compared to Sony Xperia XZ.

Storage:- LG G5 and Sony Xperia support  have dedicated slot fom Micro SD support up to 256 GB, whereas Google Pixel does not support Micro SD expansion.

LG G5 comes with only 32 GB internal option, Sony Xperia XZ comes with 32 and 64 GB option, whereas Google Pixel Comes with 32 and 128 GB internal option

Google Pixel Watch Android Wear 2.0: Rumors And Expectations.

The rumors about the Google Pixel watch started few months ago, but then, is there any real truth to all these rumors? Here in this article, I will give you the answer to this question, along with some information regarding Google Pixel Watch release date, specs, features and price.

I don't have any official information regarding the release date of these two watch. Though I read the tweet posted by Evan Blass, only mentioning that the two Google's smartwatches will be released with Android 2.0 in first quarter of 2017.

If that is the case then I think of only two such big occasions where they can possibly be announced. First one is CES 2017 event at Las Vegas: This event happens from January 5 to 8 and a big opportunity for new gadgets to attract attention, so Google might take this chance. If not then I think the next big event would be MWC 2017 at Barcelona that runs from 27 February to 2 March.

However, in many cases Google has hosted its own event to launch there new products, as it happened at the massive October launch event of Pixel Smartphones. So like me sit and wait for the happening day.

Disclaimer: Please this is all just a rumor, there is a highly chance that the final product will be totally different. So please don't assume anything until its officially announced. This article is just for knowledge and to keep you updated about upcoming products.

Google Pixel Watch Design: Round Shape?

The twitted image by Evan Blass is the only lead I have right now. In the image I see two round shape watches. The the bigger one is Angelfish, while the smaller one is sword fish. Both watches have premium design, but to me the swordfish has little cleaner and minimalist design and the strap is thinner too.

According to Android Police anticipation, the Angel fish is 14 mm thick, with case diameter of 43.5 mm.  The biggest Moto 360 has 46 mm case diameter, so slightly thinner then.  The Swordfish, on other hand has a more thinner 42 mm diameter, same as the biggest Apple Watch (42 mm).

But let me point out, this images by Android Police might not be entirely authentic, as to protect the source they might had to re create the source material. In a nutshell, there is a heavy chance that the devices depicted might have little bit different design.

Also the final thing that I want to add is, I also heard that the Angelfish will have dark matte grey color called "Titanium". While the Swordfish will have three different colors: Titanium, gold and silver.

Google Pixel Watch Software: Android Wear 2.0?

According to Android Police and Evan Blass, both Google Pixel watch will feature upcoming Android Wear 2.0 (made by Google). Google announced  Android wear 2.0 at its Google I/O 2016 event. This one has some interesting new features compared to the previous version. Features included are standalone Apps, handwriting recognition, a dark background for OLED watch to save battery, a  keyboard and a new circular UI. Currently only the preview version is available for some chosen watches,but I think they will be launching the full version with their pixel watch release.

According to Android Police, the Angelfish will feature standalone apps ie it has its own software processing power unlike other watches, where they have to be near smartphone to get help in processing. But they were not sure about the swordfish to have the same.

Also according to the reports the new watches will be equipped with Google Assistance: this is Google virtual Assistance- an advance form of Google and "Ok Google" that allow two way conversation much like Cortana(Microsoft) and SIRI(Apple). You can access this feature from the Google Allo messenger or directly from your smartphones home button.

Google Pixel Watch Specification: Snapdragon 1100/2100?

I think Google has two latest options to go for, either the Snapdragon 1100 or the Snapdragon 2100. Both the SOCs are for the smartwatches. Also I am saying this because, seeing at the trends, Google has shown no reluctance towards using Qualcomm chipsets in its smartphones. Even their latest iteration like Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones features the most powerful Snapdragon 821 SOC(System On Chip).

As far as selection goes, I think Google might pick Snapdragon 2100, as this one is more advance and has more then enough power to take on everything the Android Wear 2.0 OS has to offer. While the Snapdragon 1100 might be the latest one, but it is more suitable for fitness wearable than a self dependent software processing Unit.

Lets talk about what each of these processors are capable of. Both chips built of 28 mm process and supports 4G connectivity. As far resolution support goes, Snapdragon 1100 only supports simple 2D user interface, while Snapdragon 2100 can handle higher resolution of up to 640 X 840 @ 60 fps(frame per second). SW 2100 also supports faster LPDDr3 Ram, while SW 1100 supports LPDDr2 Ram.  Also SW 2100 has quad cortex A7 cores and an Adreno 304 GPU, whereas SW 1100 has only single Cortex A7 core and a fixed function GPU.

So I think its pretty clear now, which processor Google gonna choose for its upcoming two watches.

Google Pixel Watch Price Tag?

Well, I still don't know and probably no one knows. As nothing was indicated regarding the price tag of these watches in the Leak reports. So the only thing we can do is predict the price by looking at the latest smartwatches available in the market.

Intex Aqua Craze II And Intex Aqua 5.5 VR First Impressions: Reliance Jio 4G Supported Smartphones

Intex Technologies has unveiled two new smartphones, dubbed as Intex Aqua Craze II And Intex Aqua 5.5 VR at the ongoing Indian Gadget Expo(IGE) 2016 which are priced quite cheaply under Rs 6,000 and also supports Reliance Jio 4G sim.

Intex Aqua Craze II And Intex Aqua 5.5 VR are low budget smartphones that support Jio 4G and has VoLTE as well.

At this event I got sometime to use both of this phone and In this article I will be sharing my experience regarding this phone. So lets get into it

Some Good Design!

As far as the design is concerned, both phone look quite similar, but the Intex Aqua Craze II is little bit more premium than the  Aqua 5.5 VR. The body of both these phones are made of plastic and doesn't feel good to hands at all. But how much more can we expect from an entry level devices. Both phones are quite slippery on hands and are fingerprint magnetic.

Mediocre Display Quality

The Intex Aqua Craze II features a 5.0 inch IPS display with resolution of 720p, while the Aqua 5.5 VR features a 5.5 inch IPS display with the same resolution. Both displays are decent for such a low price. Also both the screens were highly reflective, which was quite discomforting to eyes. The side angled views of displays were not bad.

Poor Camera Quality

Both these smartphones have 5 MP rear camera and 5 MP front facing camera. Its was shocking to see that the camera doesn't even focus on object, no matter how many times I touched the screen. The images that were taken were little blurry, as though they lack stability. 

But the front camera with flash on Aqua 5.5 VR might be little bit more helpful in night times. But when I shot some photos in artificial light conditions, the photos that came out were little distorted, which disappointed me a little.

Slow Performance

Both Intex Aqua Craze II And Intex Aqua 5.5 VR smartphone features a 64 bit Mediatek Quad core processor and as I expected, the Mediatek processors are not able to even handle general tasks such as camera and browsing. Also they have only 1 GB ram, which again is quite low. At least Intex should have added 2 GB of ram to make them handle at least this much.

 Intex Aqua 5.5 VR: VR Capable

I say, this is something, extra ordinary for such a low priced phone to have. This is surely a plus point for this phone, as this will be the next big thing in the smartphone world. 

 Comes With Android 6.0 Marshmallow 

This is a plus point for both smartphones, as they both are powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Cheapest Smartphones To support Reliance Jio 4G

Even if not all the features are appealing, but this one is for sure. As I mentioned before, both the newly announced smartphones has support for Reliance Jio and both of them has VoLTE. So you can make voice calls with the need of installing third party apps

Android 7.1 Nougat Update: Top 5 Features

Android 7.1 Nougat Update:- After Android 7.0 Nougat, the search engine giant, Google will be rolling out the another version Android 7.1. The phones to get the first update will be its own pixel smartphones.

This feature was initially showcased at the Android Nougat Beta Program. With this feature you can directly jump into specific actions by just pressing and holding the app icon, quite like 3D Touch of an iPhone. According to the reports, you can add up to five shortcuts per application in Android 7.1 Nougat Update.

Fingerprint Gestures:-

This one is quite convenient to use. With this update you can directly open or close notification panel by swiping down or up on the fingerprint sensor.

Night Mode:-

This feature was also introduced during the beta program, but later was scrapped. Now once again Google is bringing this feature called Night mode in this upcoming update. As the name suggest, this feature is especially designed for late night users. 

This feature removes the blue light from your smartphone screen when turned on. You will be able to use your smartphone without straining your eyes at night.

Image Keyboard:-

As the name suggest this is not a keyboard to type, instead with this you can send stickers, emojis, GIFs and more.

Google Personalized Assistance:-

This feature won't be Included in all smartphones except the Pixel ones. This is an modified version of Google now and "Ok Google"- designed to be more personal than before. 

Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, demoed Google Assistant and said he wanted people to experience "an ongoing two-way dialog" with the virtual assistant.  

Here's how Google explains its new assistant:

"The assistant is conversational - an ongoing two-way dialogue between you and Google that understands your world and helps you get things done. It makes it easy to buy movie tickets while on the go, to find that perfect restaurant for your family to grab a quick bite before the movie starts, and then help you navigate to the theater." 

The developer preview of Android Nougat 7.1 will available initially for devices like Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P  and Pixel C tablet at the end of October.

Whereas devices like Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and other Android one devices will get the final release around December End.
